A significant expansion to the physical size and layout of Waitakere Hospital’s Emergency Department has been completed. The $9.8 million expansion has almost doubled the footprint to create significant extra capacity to meet the needs of West Auckland residents. Some benefits of the space include:
New zones for emergency cases involving children
A new front-of-house zone, with separate waiting areas for adults and children
19 new patient cubicles
New corridor connecting the Emergency Department and ambulance bays with the main Waitakere Hospital
New zones for mental health patients
2 isolation rooms to contain airborne diseases- one each for adult and child patients
The facility was opened in August 2016.
