Opened in 2013
Is situated in the North Shore Hospital campus, Shakespeare Road, Takapuna
Dedicated solely to providing uninterrupted elective surgical procedures (non-emergency) for the growing population of the Waitemata District
Has four operating theatres, 40 inpatient beds, 12-bedded recovery room
Stand-alone sterilising department
Separate outpatient department
The aims of the ESC:
to create the most productive and cost-effective surgical public hospital in the country
allow a greater flow of patients from admission to discharge
maintain a very high level of patient care and comfort
increase the number of elective procedures (
5,500 procedures per year by 2016/17)
reduce the overall cost of workload
re-invest savings into other areas
separate elective services from emergency/acute care
creates efficiency and productivity by having an uninterrupted service all year round
group patients together who are having the same type of surgical procedure
