Clothing service helps mental health patients

Stuff.co.nz(external link) - A team of medical staff is giving mental health patients the gift of confidence.

On the ground floor of the Waitemata District Health Board's Mental Health office on Auckland's North Shore is a room full of colourful clothes, shoes and hats.

Established in 2013, Clothes for Confidence is a simple operation.

Patients are referred by their doctor or specialist, they visit the boutique, get fitted by a volunteer, and walk away with good quality outfits free of charge.

Set up by clinical psychologist Maree Martinovich, the service is run by a committee of medical staff and three volunteers.

It has expanded over the past three years thanks to regular donations from staff and the community.

"We want to keep the momentum going. Any donations are still very much appreciated," Martinovich says.

"We're here for people who are going through a rough patch." read more >>(external link)
