Waitemata DHB has looked at the health needs of local people to help plan for healthcare for the next ten years. For the first time the needs of Maori and Pacific people have been a specific focus, as we know those groups tend to suffer disproportionately poorer health than other New Zealanders. Reducing these inequalities is one of Waitemata DHB's key goals. The needs of the district's large Asian population have also been a direct focus.
Alongside advice from public health doctors, epidemiologists and other health providers, these health needs assessments were compiled by going out to the Waitemata community and talking to people about their priorities and where there may be gaps in Waitemata DHB services. The assessments provide a snapshot of the health of the area's population and help plan for the future.
Waitemata DHB has recently completed its latest Health Needs Assessment for the five Auckland Council wards and eight local boards of its district. Click here for more information.
