The Asian health support service helps members of the Asian population living in the Waitemata District to access culturally appropriate health services. It provides:
- Health interpreting and translating services for all languages
- A Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and English health information phone line
- Support services for Asian consumers/patients attending North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals
- Chinese and Korean needs assessment services for clients who are 65 years and older and who have a disability
- Asian home help services - including respite care, personal and domestic services
- Chinese and Korean patient education programmes
- New Zealand health system education for new migrants
- Translation of Waitemata DHB health information and health service pamphlets.
The Asian health support service has four full-time and five part-time staff plus more than 220 contracted ethnic interpreters, needs assessors and home helpers, and over 100 Asian volunteers. For more information about our services, please visit our website.
