 Asian health support service

The Asian health support service helps members of the Asian population living in the Waitemata District to access culturally appropriate health services. It provides:

  • Health interpreting and translating services for all languages
  • A Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and English health information phone line
  • Support services for Asian consumers/patients attending North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals
  • Chinese and Korean needs assessment services for clients who are 65 years and older and who have a disability
  • Asian home help services - including respite care, personal and domestic services
  • Chinese and Korean patient education programmes
  • New Zealand health system education for new migrants
  • Translation of Waitemata DHB health information and health service pamphlets.

The Asian health support service has four full-time and five part-time staff plus more than 220 contracted ethnic interpreters, needs assessors and home helpers, and over 100 Asian volunteers. For more information about our services, please visit our website.
