Based at Waitakere Hospital, the Rangitira Unit is a ten-bed short stay paediatric general medical unit which also provides outpatient services. It cares for children aged from 0-14 years with medical problems such as asthma, croup and gastroenteritis. Follow-up care is provided by Home Care for Kids nurses who are based in the hospital’s Child Health Unit. The service also works with the community – including GPs, home care nurses, and Maori and Pacific providers – to ensure continual care and support for children, and their families, once they are well enough to return home.
