The Waitemata, Auckland and Counties Manukau DHBs and Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDS) want to ensure that all prospective Year 9 students take the opportunity to continue receiving free dental care when they move to secondary school. This service is available from Year 9 until the child's 18th birthday.
Adolescents are encouraged to enrol with a dentist who holds a contract with their DHB to treat adolescents under the government-funded dental benefits. Enrolment forms are available from the school dental therapist for Year 8s or by contacting the Adolescent Dental Coordination Service on 0800 ITS FREE (0800 487 3733).

Contracted dentists (Providers of free dental care for adolescents)
If a dentist has a contract with the DHB then the basic dental care for adolescents will be provided free. The DHB will pay for the treatment. This free treatment does not include orthodontic treatment or accidents normally covered under ACC. Please note that not all white fillings are free. If you request white fillings, or if the dentist will only provide white fillings, please check with the dentist first to see if there is a fee for this service.
If your chosen dentist does not have a contract with the DHB, then services will not be free.
This contract has a focus on prevention and allows the dentist to provide all necessary treatments. This service is available to all adolescents up until the 18th birthday whether they are at school, tertiary study or working.

Mobile providers
Mobile services are provided to some schools & colleges by Lumino Dental, Mighty Mouth and the West Auckland Dental Service. The Auckland mobile providers also have a contract with the District Health Board to treat adolescents. The service is provided from a mobile dental surgery on the school grounds. Backup to these services are provided from their static dental practices should you need treatment in between school visits. Below are the lists of schools visited by mobile providers:

Auckland Regional Dental Service
ARDS provides a safety net service for a limited number of adolescents. This service is for those adolescents who have not enrolled with a dentist and might otherwise miss out on regular dental care. Please discuss with your dental therapist.
