Child health has been given a high priority by Waitemata DHB as we develop and implement a district-wide Child Health Strategic Plan for children from birth to 14 years. The importance of child health is reflected in the immediate benefits of experiencing a healthy childhood, and later in the prevention of some adult diseases.
There are over 100,000 children aged 0-14 years in the Waitemata district, making up over a fifth of the total population covered by Waitemata DHB. The child population is expected to continue to increase throughout the Auckland region over the coming years.
