A fundraiser for the Rangitira paediatric unit at Waitakere Hospital
What is WellKids 2012?
WellKids 2012 is a six-week campaign starting on May 1 to raise $150,000 for the Rangitira children’s unit at Waitakere Hospital.
Why is the fundraiser necessary?
The Rangitira Unit is Waitemata DHB’s paediatric ward for children aged 0-14 years.
It is for children living in Rodney, on the North Shore and in Waitakere City, and last year almost 2,500 children were treated in the ward.
Currently the unit is undergoing a $3 million expansion to make it bigger and better for sick children and their families. It will re-open fully in July with:
- Ten extra beds (taking the total to 33)
- A new, negative pressure isolation room for children with infectious illnesses like measles
- A purpose-built play room
- An outdoor garden area
- A parent kitchen
- More single-bedded rooms to help manage infectious children and the very young and vulnerable.
The money raised during WellKids 2012 will help provide the finishing touches to make the new unit a more magical place for around 2,500 sick children every year.
What will the money raised be used for?
Donations will be used primarily for specialist, and other, toys, and some medical equipment. Money raised will help to purchase items such as train sets, puppets, Lego, dolls, art easles, activity huts, a PlayStation console, controllers and games, furniture and bean bags, and portable DVD players. It may also be used to create themed areas that make hospital a less intimidating place for children.
How do you donate?
You can donate to WellKids 2012 by:
- Cheque: Please make cheques payable to Three Harbours Health Foundation. Write the reference ‘Rangitira’ on the back and send to Private Bag 93-503 Takapuna, Auckland, ATTN: Accounts Receivable.
- Internet: Make an on-line payment to account number 03-0181-0188806-000. Please be sure to include the word ‘Rangitira’ in the reference field.
- Cash: Cash payments can be made at the Waitakere or North Shore Hospital cashiers’ offices between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Ask a volunteer at the hospitals’ main reception for directions to the cashiers. NB: EFTPOS is not available.
