Board meetings are open to the public, who are able to observe but not participate in meetings. Both meeting agendas and meeting minutes are available to the public. The DHB’s District Strategic Plan is also subject to a public consultation process. Although aspects of some meetings may be closed to the public, this occurs only for specific reasons. In general, board members are expected to treat all confidential business before the board as strictly confidential. Members are also expected to comply with all relevant legislation concerning privacy, especially with respect to individuals. Where members are unclear as to how particular information should be treated, guidance should be sought from the board chairperson.
